Shoptiques Business is now Material. We’re changing our name, but our mission is the same: to help independent retail businesses operate more efficiently by providing tools for selling in-store, online and on our marketplaces.

Some background

Shoptiques was founded in 2012 with the goal of bringing together customers looking to buy one-of-a-kind merchandise with boutique retailers that wanted to expand their sales and sell online. Since then we’ve helped over 5,000 boutiques sell nearly $50 million worth of merchandise through Shoptiques.com.

Ecommerce has evolved tremendously in the years since Shoptiques was born. Omnichannel retail is now table stakes for both big and small retailers. There are hundreds of software tools available for retailers of all sizes. We realized that it was becoming nearly impossible for the average independent retailer to keep up with this dizzying pace of evolution. So we decided to start building tools and providing services to give retailers everything they need in one place.

Today, our point of sale system is used by hundreds of independent retailers to manage inventory in-store and online, develop customer relationships, and obtain insights into their businesses. We have processed over $150 million in brick and mortar sales for our retailers and we continue to break records month after month.

As we’ve expanded our product with new tools like customer loyalty programs, SMS and email marketing, we saw our business outgrowing the Shoptiques name. While our marketplace, Shoptiques.com, remains unchanged, the business behind Shoptiques and the software and services needed a fresh identity, one that represented the larger vision for our business. Thus Material was born.

Moving forward

Along with the name, we have overhauled our brand look and feel. If you’re a customer, rest assured this will not impact your service and you don’t need to do anything. If you’re not a customer, you should be!

The launch of Material marks a new beginning for our business and signifies the next chapter in our commitment to a mission started over 10 years ago. We will continue to help independent retailers thrive by providing versatile tools, personalized services, and unbeatable guidance in one easy-to-use retail kit.
